Child Development Programs - Sea to Sky

Provided by Sea to Sky Community Services

Various programs aimed to support or improve child development.
The following programs are offered:

Supported Child Development:The program works with families whose child is up to 12 years of age and needing support, perhaps due to developmental delays, challenging behaviour, speech or language delays or exceptional health care needs. This program trains and help parents and childcare providers, help parents find a childcare facility and work with the facility to ensure a successful time. Any required extra staffing for support services is paid by the provincial government.

Physical and Occupational Therapies: Offers therapy to help children and young people develop their motor skills. The therapists work with children from birth to Grade 12.

Respite Program: Provides funding to give family members some respite from caregiving to a child with autism or other additional needs.

Special Needs Resource Program: Provides one-to-one and group opportunities to youth with developmental disabilities. Youth develop social and recreational skills by experiencing a variety of activities and settings.

Behavioural Support: Provides professional support to a child or youth with additional needs and their families in order to improve a young person’s ability to participate in home and community.

FASD Key Worker Program: Keyworker works with children who could have been exposed to alcohol or drugs before they were born or who have Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions. They work with the family to put together a support plan, which includes adapting the child’s environment in response to the child’s needs and building on his or her strengths and may include obtaining an assessment.

Infant Development Program: Provide early intervention support to families with a child up to three years of age. An infant development consultant works with parents to develop a program of activities to encourage the development of physical, social, emotional, language and cognitive skills. In addition to assessments, home visits and referrals, they run drop-ins where children can learn and socialize in an informal, fun group setting, and parents can speak with a consultant.

The above-mentioned programs are offered at different locations throughout the cities of Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish. Consult the website to find the location offerings.
