Early Childhood Development

Provided by Southern Stl’atl’imx Health Society

Provides a wide range of services to help create positive educational and social outcomes for Stl’atl’imx children ages 0-6 in the Mount Currie region.
The goal of the SSHS Early Child Development Program (ECD) is to increase the overall health of Southern Stl’atl’imx children from birth to age six. Currently, the main focus of ECD is the delivery of drop-in playgroups that offer structured early childhood development programs.

The ECD Program believes that St̓át̓imc language and culture development must be the basis of all programs and services available to Southern Stl’atl’imx children. The program’s services work to strengthen the capacity of each SSHS community to enable the delivery of a full range of services with an emphasis on early childhood development. By increasing awareness and access to a wide range of culturally appropriate programs and services for First Nations children, families, and communities, the ECD Program addresses all aspects of the health and well-being of the children of SSHS member communities. The following services are offered:
  • Family Playgroups
  • Workshops for parents and caregivers
  • Land-based learning
  • Cultural experiences and teachings

  • Early childhood interventions
